Jen and I are going out to camp at the Park from Wednesday 5/27 through Monday 6/1, and would welcome anyone to join us for one or more days of camping and/or day paddling. The Park is very conveniently located for access from the northern Front Range: north of I-76 at Morgan County Road 144, or east of Greeley off of Highway 34. It has a 2500 acre reservoir and excellent camping facilities. It is a popular destination for fishing, and also for birding. We'll plan to launch from the swimming beach just north of the boat ramp at 9:00 a.m. Contact George Ottenhoff with any questions: ghocolo@gmail.com.
Paddle Plan: TBD
What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, binoculars. Must have PFD, safety whistle. drybag with a change of dry clothes, first aide kit, pump and paddle float for self rescue, a bow line. Consider a spare paddle. Consider neoprene or cold water gear depending on water temperature and weather. Maybe bring canopy for shade depending on air temperature. It is a warm water, shallow lake and if the weather is hot, swimming might be an option.
Hazards: Water, If the wind picks up, expect waves
General Plan: If you plan to camp overnight, contact George and ask what campsite he and Jen are at. Then make your campsite reservation through recreation.gov You can Google Jackson State Park for more general information.
