Often a casual flatwater (class I) day trip suitable for novices and families. BUT it depends on what flows we get! Extra caution is recommended for flows above 800 cfs. Check the Kersey Bridge Flow Guage: https://dwr.state.co.us/Tools/Stations/PLAKERCO?params=DISCHRG
Trip choices:
(1) To Kersey Bridge = 9 miles; takeout on river left.
(2) To Kuner Bridge = 15 miles; takeout on river left, second bridge. Kurner takeout is a
haul and requires crossing a barbed wire fence and up a steep hill. Wind can become a factor in the afternoon between Kersey and Kuner.
Two wet portages. Don't plan to unload your boat. Let those familiar with the dams choose the side, set up the route and portage first.
Then stick around to help others move their boats.
ACA waivers are required.
ACA Smart Waiver Fill it out, print and bring it with you.
Short meeting at 9:30 a.m. at the turn-around. Shuttles to the two take-outs.
COLD WATER necessitates warm clothing. Take a spare change of clothes, lunch, water, sun hat, dry bags.
